The new DELE A2
The major changes in the DELE A2 are summarised below.
Reading comprehension test
- Four rather than five exercises and 25 rather than 30 items, with the same total duration (60 min).
- Inclusion of everyday topics familiar to a broader profile of users.
- Format changes in some exercises.
- Former exercise 1 has been deleted.
- Exercises 1 and 2 are like former exercises 2 and 3 with slight changes.
- Exercise 3 is new.
- Exercise 4 is like former exercise 5 with slight changes.
Oral comprehension test
- Four rather than five exercises and 25 rather than 30 items, with the same total duration (40 min).
- Inclusion of examples in all exercises.
- Inclusion of everyday topics familiar to a broader profile of users.
- Longer pauses before, during and after audio recordings.
- Format changes in some exercises.
- Exercise 1 is new and all the options are images.
- Exercise 2 is like former exercise 2 with slight changes.
- Exercise 3 is new.
- Exercise 4 is like former exercise 3 with slight changes.
- Exercise 5 has been deleted.
Written expression and interaction test
- Two rather than three exercises, exercise 1 deleted.
- Reduction of total test duration from 50 to 45 min.
- Inclusion of two options in exercise 2.
- Inclusion of everyday topics familiar to a broader profile of users.
- New marking scales.
Oral expression and interaction test
- Three rather than four exercises, exercise 4 deleted.
- Reduction of duration from 15 to 12 min.
- Inclusion of everyday topics familiar to a broader profile of users.
- Systematisation of exercise 2 instructions, which are now always the same.
- Creation of a new system of options to facilitate administration.
- New marking scales.
Exam specifications
The new DELE A2 comprises four tests:
- Reading comprehension (60 min)
- Oral comprehension (40 min)
- Written expression and interaction (45 min)
- Oral expression and interaction (12 min + 12 min preparation)

The Cervantes Institute furnishes a sample of the new DELE A2 exam to be administered beginning in February 2020 to enable candidates to familiarise themselves with test structure and format.
